"The idea of transformation – from human to animal, from mortal land to the land of the gods – is the foundation of many of the Greek myths and it weaves in and out of the artist’s compositions."

"The title of this exhibition is "ARMATURA", a word drawn from the metal framework that supports sculptures, but also a metaphor for something deeper: an inner structure that holds us upright when everything feels like it’s falling apart. An armatura built from the inside out, a process of fortification, endurance and survival.

These works emerged from a vital need to continue, to process, to transform emotion into form. Creation became a way of existing, of shaping the formless of staying present. The female figures in the works are quiet, but never passive. There is something confrontational in their faces, they meet your gaze head-on, unapologetically. They are resilient, authentic, grounded in their own truth. They are not performing. They devote themselves to small acts of making, as if through craft they mend something within.

The scenes recall the funerary compositions of Rubens, bodies rendered in greys and yellows, suspended between matter and light, between flesh and its shadow. A kind of painting that looks directly at endings, not to escape them, but to understand them.

The relationship between painting and sculpture in this body of work is organic, almost breath-like. Just as the brush touches the canvas, the hands build forms in the studio. I paint as I sculpt and I sculpt as I paint. Matter transforms into form and form dissolves back into matter, an endless cycle, like memory, like grief.

Within the armatura of this practice, I find refuge. A structure that holds me, that allows me to stand, to feel, to continue."
