Liliane Tomasko’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing and sculpture. Her work is recognized for its investigation of perception and the relationship between figuration and abstraction.

Born in Zurich, Tomasko studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she subsequently established her career and continues to live and work. Her practice reflects a transatlantic formation, combining European and American artistic contexts with a focus on process, materiality and image construction.

Tomasko’s work is characterized by layered surfaces, gestural mark-making, and the use of opacity and translucency. Her compositions often suggest interior or spatial structures, while remaining formally ambiguous. Through processes such as repetition, erasure and accumulation, she develops compositions that emphasize transformation and visual instability.

Her work has been exhibited widely in international institutions and galleries. Notable presentations include exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Bern, the Centre Culturel Suisse, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, and the The FLAG Art Foundation. She has also exhibited with galleries such as Kerlin Gallery and Miles McEnery Gallery.

Her works are held in public collections including the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, the Aargauer Kunsthaus, and the Kunsthaus Zürich, among others.

In 2026, Tomasko’s work will be the subject of two forthcoming exhibitions. Liliane Tomasko: Bridge, a solo retrospective, will open at the Ludwig Museum Koblenz on 30 August 2026. This will be followed by a solo exhibition curated by Marjolaine Lévy at the Sainte Marie de La Tourette, organized by the Fondation Le Corbusier, as part of the Biennale de Lyon (14 September – 15 November 2026).
