Mariana Oushiro (b. 1992) is a New York–based Brazilian artist best known for her large-scale, immersive canvases. In her work, she combines intuitive movement with formal abstraction, creating compositions that exist at the intersection of painting, performance and psychoanalysis.
Oushiro works on unstretched canvases laid flat on the floor, initiating her compositions with gestures made using her hands, knees and feet—an approach that brings a choreographic, almost ritualistic quality to her practice. These sweeping marks are the result of her own bodily expression, establishing a dialogue between introspection and physical motion. Her process is guided by instinct and shaped by a deep engagement with geometry, emotional memory and the subconscious. The resulting mixed-media works unfold as expressive, psychological landscapes that envelop the viewer.
Oushiro has exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows at Volery Gallery (Dubai), Vito Schnabel Gallery (New York and Los Angeles), the Museum of Brazilian Art (São Paulo), and Galerie Mitterrand (Paris). Her work has also been featured in prominent group exhibitions, including The Sphere of Fantasy and Reality (Shenzhen), SP Arte (São Paulo), Women in Abstraction at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (Philippines), These Days at Vito Schnabel Gallery (New York), and the LVH Art group show curated by Lawrence Van Hagen (Hong Kong), among others.
